Questions and Answers

These are questions that I am often asked, but everyone is different.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me.

Family photography
Where are you?

I'm based just outside of Slough, where a quick walk takes me right in to the heart of the Buckinghamshire countryside. Travel to your home or location up to 15 miles is included in the fee.

How long will a session take?

Every session is as individual as you and your family. My guideline is about 2 hours but some relax much quicker than others, or take a break for a snack or a nap. Obviously a walk to the park may take a bit longer than shots in your home, I'm not ruled by my watch, I am passionate about getting the best shots though.

What should we wear?

There is a very good chance that as we will be photographing in your home you will have a change of clothes available if desired. Wear whatever makes you and/or you child happy. Formal clothes sometimes make children worry that they may get them dirty. It does depend on what look you want for the photographs.

I would however suggest that t-shirts with logo's or slogans on aren't the best idea and day-glo colours really don't photograph that well, but it is all down to your style, if you are concerned then just give me a call and ask.

What if it rains?

This is England - let's be honest there's a reasonable chance it might rain. We can still do most of the session indoors, but I have yet to find a child that doesn't like the chance to go and splash in some puddles and get soaking wet. I'll make the suggestions - you make the final decision. Of course sometimes it really is the wrong sort of rain so we can postpone the session and I will do everything in my power to accommodate your busy schedule.

Do you "retouch" the shots?

You obviously want memorable and beautiful shots so it is no problem hiding the superficial blemishes and scratches that inevitably happen to every child. I will check with you on the day of the shoot if you have any concerns.

Will I help you loose a few pounds? If you really do want the camera to lie then that can be arranged, but you must be assuming that your photographs won't look beautiful - they will
. . . and so do you!

I don't think that my house is suitable?

You would be surprised just how suitable your house and garden are. Your children are so much more relaxed and everything they and you want is to hand. The photographs are about your family and that is where the focus will be. Tidying away the ironing board may help though.

What happens if me or my child is ill?

We simply reschedule the shoot for when you expect them to have recovered. I do ask that you let me know as soon as possible.

Can I join in on the photographs?

Of course - it is about family and you and even your pet are more than welcome to join in - a little chaos just adds to the fun of it all.

We've never done this before, I don't know how to pose.

I won't be asking you to pose, just relax and be yourselves. The session is usually about capturing that special moment and hopefully after a short time you won't even notice I am there. If you want a more traditional portrait I can easily help you relax and talk you through the best way to bring out your most flattering features.

You took loads of photos but I don't see them all in my gallery.

Almost too many reasons to list here as to why not all shots I take make it to your gallery. Your galley is created to give you a selection of the best shots taken on the day, A lot of the time I will take 10 or even 20 shots of a situation just to make sure you get the perfect shot, I know you don't want to see all the "same" shot and so I select what I consider to be the best one or two. Also I know you don't want to gallery to be too big so that it bores your friends and family, so some similar shots get omitted. And finally your gallery contains shots that are all fully processed, if you have asked for any blemishes or scars to be removed this has been done, and each shot has been carefully checked and corrected to look its best, but this takes time, the extra shots have all been checked and corrected but fine retouching may not have been done.

How much do prints cost?

Prints are not included in the fee simply because so often clients prefer to get them done later and through their preferred supplier. You are able however to purchase prints directly from your secure gallery if you wish, this facility is available in all galleries and the prints are produced by Loxley Colour, one of the UK's leading photo labs. Prices vary depending on the size and finish you require.

Do you provide any 'props' for baby shoots i.e. blankets, accessories etc

I don’t provide props because everyone has such individual taste I don’t want to force anything on you that may not be appropriate. Also, my style is much more informal and capturing your child as they relax and enjoy themselves creates much more personal images. I do have various blankets, rugs, etc as well as coloured backgrounds and quite an assortment of materials that can be draped etc if we want, again we can chat this all over when you select a date.

I am of course more than happy for you to “style” your child however you wish and of course we can change outfits as many times as you want on the day.

Do you provide passport photographs

Simply put - no. I'm good but the £6 photo booths designed specifically for this task, which can be found in virtually all major supermarkets are difficult to compete with. You wouldn't believe the number of phone enquiries I get asking this question.

Do you offer training or lessons

Yes I do, it's not a formal course but specifically tailored to your individual requirements. So whether you are a complete novice who wants to learn what all the buttons and settings on your new camera do, or you know what you are doing but want to take your hobby to the next level then I will take you through all you need to know.

I also offer specialised tutorials and assistance in processing your photos in either Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop.

Courses can be arranged to suit your time and budget at an hourly rate of £60
